True Love

In the time of my darkest hour,
I reach out and find...
Nothing.
In the wake of my most desperate time,
My cries went unheeded,
Unheard.
My sadness became my realm of torture and pain,
Brought upon me by myself,
With no one to blame but me.
I gave my trust too easily-
I believed in those promises of eternity
A naïve child with romantic fantasies,
I froze my world for you,
And,
For each moment of happiness,
I suffered a lifetime of sorrow,
Of loneliness.
Still,
I believed, still hoped, that
Someday, things would change for the better,
Even though deep inside, I knew,
It was impossible.
