It's a perfect disguise
To hide her carefully from the world
And keep her safe from the darkness of the day.
A colourful toy of fabric and paint,
Creates a child's fantasy,
Princess in a palace
Calling for her Knight in shining armor.
But can toys truly live happily ever-after?
A flawless rose of flaming red
Decorated in silken petals,
Your thorns shield you from the dangers on the world,
But you block out everything else.
Little bird,
Do you fear yourself?
Has the world of reality frightened you into deception?
You have been fooled, child,
You feared the truth,
You shed your wings
But do you feel beautiful?
Pretty dolls, red roses, hearts and kisses,
Pictures of desire,
Voice of determination.
You long to feel the sun again
But will it burn your skin?
Dreams will die and fade like childhood,
Flowers will grow old and whither,
Birds will fall from the sky,
And costumes don't last forever.
