The Midnight Owl

The sky darkens as the moon rises
And lets off a light as bright as the sun.
Mice scurry around carefully watching,
Listening,
Waiting for enemies.
Suddenly a silent beating breaks the comforting silence.
A hunting scream echoes across the valley.
The Midnight Owl has arrived.
It glides elegantly into the light.
It's gleaming feathers, as smooth as silk, shine like the moon.
He perches himself on a worn branch
Carefully listening for his prey.
The gallant bird watches and listens.
Hours go by,
And he finally spots an innocent mouse.
He swoops down quietly and catches it,
Holding it firmly in his powerful beak
And swallows his dinner just in time
For the sun is rising above the hills.
The Midnight Owl slowly falls asleep.
