Memories

Author’s notes: Compliments? Flames? Anything?

I remember the looks that they gave you.

I remember the stories they would tell.

The way you would look down at your feet,

Holding back.

I wonder if they’d ever stopped to think-

To look at your face.

Cursed forever,

Girl who cried silent tears.

I remember how you had backed away into a little corner.

I remember that pleading look you gave them.

But the malice in their eyes only grew,

Like wolves with their prey.

I remember how you spread wings and flew.

I remember the smile that lighted up your face

As you soared higher and higher,

Reaching for that place just beyond our horizon.

Are you finally free of all your worries?

Have you finally found love?

Do angels fly beside you,

Leading you toward your dreams?

I remember the looks that they gave you.

I remember the stories they would tell.

The way you would look down at your feet,

Holding back.

They’d never stopped to think.

Never looked at your face.

Flying free,

Girl who cried silent tears.
