La Notte

The moon was silver white that night
And all the stars were strangely bright
All of them were throwing light
On all the children sleeping tight

Then a scream engulfed the air
And all the children woken were
What strange thing could have happened there
With the stars so bright and fair?

All the children rubbed their eyes
And tried to stop from crying cries
They looked around and up the skies
And saw a man; tall, stern and wise

'The man was light itself,' they thought
And silver shone the girls he brought
They looked like they had never fought
And only peace it was they sought

They joined the other children then
And joyfully played, jumped and ran
The man smiled and counted ten
And never was he seen again.
