I ran and I ran and I ran. And then I ran some more. I seemed to be doing quite a lot of that lately. I saw the car up ahead, with Carson still in it. Nice to see he was concerned about me.
"Car!" I screamed as I approached.
He looked up and raised an eyebrow, "Are you referring to me or the vehicle I'm in?" he asked sarcastically, though he knew damn well that that was my old childhood nickname for him. Back when I could stand to be in his presence.
"There's-a-a...man," I panted desperately.
"What are you babbling about?"
What an absolute moron.
I was starting to breathe more regularly and tried again.
"There was a man-a big, crazy man-back there!"
He seemed skeptical.
"What do you mean? There's just a man wandering around out in the middle of nowhere?"
"Yes! And he's definitely unstable. I think he might be dangerous."
He seemed to believe me due to my very real hysterics.
"What makes you say he's dangerous? What happened?"
I groped desperately for a way to accurately describe the encounter and came up with, "He stared at me."
Carson looked at me for what seemed like an eternity, giving away nothing. I knew how stupid I sounded, I just hoped he didn't. I hoped he believed me and realized that despite how ridiculous I sounded this was something to be taken seriously.
"Very funny. But really, where have you been? You've been gone almost half an hour."
So much for that.
I stomped my foot in aggravation, "You don't believe me?"
"Andi, I'd have to be an idiot to believe you."
"Carson, you are an idiot. Therefore, going by your reasoning, you should believe me."
He rolled his eyes and said as he turned away from me, "Oh, very persuasive."
"You know, despite what you'd like to tell yourself, not all of us are as desperately childish and immature as you."
He sighed, "And what, pray tell, is that supposed to mean?"
"It means," I ground out, "that while you may be inclined to pull pranks with the very evil intention of frightening and upsetting others, I am not."
"Alright, let's say I believe you-which I don't, but for argument sake, we'll pretend-what do you want me to do about it?"
"Just be prepared."
"Be prepared to be stared at? Ok, I'll do that. Feel better?"
"No, but maybe if you slather a little more condescension on it I will."
"You're impossible."
"No, you're impossible."
"You are."
"You are."
"You are."
"No, you are," I yelled and punched him in the shoulder for good measure.
"Ow! Damnit Andi!"
I crossed my arms and turned away.
No one can piss me off quite like Carson.
