The Griesly wife

I felt my wife sit up. She lifted up the cover and I heard the creek of the hard wooden floor. I looked across not expecting to see anything odd. I was surprised to see her opening the door and stepping out into the cold white world of the snow. I jumped out of bed and grabbed my coat.

I could see her white nightdress flutter in the wind of the cold winter’s night. The side of her face was just visible. She was as pale as a ghost. She looked like a wandering spirit. I slipped my feet into my boots and bolted out of the door briefly passing the hot, crackly fire. I sighed as I stepped out into the icy blast of air. I wondered for a second what I was doing out here. Why was I running after my newly wedded wife? Where was she going? What in heavens name did she think that she was doing?
