Beast sighed and walked down the path, leaning back to look at the stars, hands behind her head. Her ears twitched and her tail swung as her boots clicked on the cobblestone. Staring up at the glittering constellations, she sighed in discontentment. What a boring evening. Nothing interesting seemed to be going on tonight. None of the night’s creatures moved in the dark; none of the abysmal horrors wanted to play. How very tiresome.
Then she heard something, a clicking along the cobblestone ahead of her. Perhaps one of the midnight children decided to wander after all, she thought, bringing her eyes down to look along the path, arms crossed over her chest. For the life of her, she hoped this long awaited company wanted to be a troublemaker. She needed a good fight.
At first, she thought she might have gotten her wish, for the intruder stood strong before her. He was a physically humanized, white wolf, tall and, at first, menacing. In contrast to coldness of his dark gray trench coat and black pants, however, his swishing tail and glowing eyes seemed friendly. A smile split his muzzle and he winked. Beast sighed and raised a brow.
So much for a fight.

Mare sang softly to herself, placing one foot in front of the other as she walked along the fence like a balance beam. Around her, the night was excessively quiet. She had split duty with Beast, which meant that, unless the demon-wolf found something more interesting, the unicorn could count on her older teammate coming over to bug her. The two had a tendency to get in trouble for spending their evenings playing a fervent game of hide-and-seek, which Mare did not find amusing seeing as she did not want to take part in it.
With a sigh, she hopped off of the fence and tred tiredly toward the rusty old playground. How completely boring and lonely. There was nothing what so ever to do and no one to talk to except a few complaining crickets. Just as she was sitting in a swing, however, she heard something moving in the trees and jumped to the ready.
After a moment, a fox snout peeked around a tree. Mare blinked at the beast’s friendly grin as he stepped out in black jeans and a dark gray trench coat, dog tags bouncing and jingling on his chest. Well now, she thought, perhaps this evening will not be so horrible after all.

Cat yawned widely, snapping her jaws shut. She leaned back against the railing of the dock, her tail beating back and forth across rail posts. Street lights gleamed off of her eyes and glittered over the water’s surface. It was an absolutely beautiful evening, and she would have enjoyed it if she had not seen it every night for weeks on end. At this point, it was rather redundant.
Then her attention was drawn by someone laughing in the dark. A soft thud echoed and the laughter swelled. Brow raised, Cat cast her gaze into the shadows in search of the intruder.
“Who’s there?â€
