Would you know my name

If I saw you in heaven?

"Do you have any semblance of feelings at all in that cold little heart of yours?"

"Probably not."

"You're dismissing me, fricking quit it."

"Quitting."

"God, could you become any more detached? What the hell is your problem?"

"I believe the question should be, what is your problem?"

"My problem? MY problem? Hello! You never show me any affection, you never tell me what you're thinking or what you're feeling, if you're even capable of feeling anything at ALL, that is."

"This bothers you?"

"No, I think it's the greatest thing in the world since the invention of love!"

Would it be the same

If I saw you in heaven?

"Your sarcasm is noted."

"Oh, frickin' great, it's noted. Well I feel a whole lot better now!"

"Good."

"You don't get it, do you? I can't live like this! I can't sit here wondering whether I mean anything to you at all, and why the hell am I even in this relationship if all you do is make me feel bad!"

"Well then, why are you in this relationship?"

I must be strong and carry on

'Cause I know I don't belong

"I don't know! Maybe because, for some unknown reason, I continue to be in-"

"Don't."

"Now what?"

"Don't say that. You don't know how you feel, little girl."

"Oh? I think I of all people would be the best judge of how I feel! Illogical or not!"

"Right."

"Since you know exactly what I feel and deign yourself the one to tell me, why don't you enlighten me on what exactly you feel for me, oh omnipotent one!"

"I'd rather not."

"Why?"

Here in heaven.

"You couldn't handle it."

"Couldn't handle it? I couldn't fucking handle it?"

"See, you agree with me."

"I don't think so!"

"No you don't. If you thought at all, you wouldn't go around questioning every single thing on the planet. You would learn maybe to just accept some-"

"Keep your goddamn eyes on the road."

"You'd learn it's more satisfying to just accept some things and not continually worry and pick at them so much that they're eventually destroyed."

"So you think I'm destroying what we have? Great, as usual, it's all my fa-Watch it!"

"Fuck-"

Bright light. Sound of tires squealing, collapsing metal, shattered glass.

Pain.

Would you hold my hand

If I saw you in heaven?

Eyesight fuzzy. Sirens. Paramedics coming. They're here. Vague shapes. Blue.

"...He's not breathing..."

"...Quick, get the..."

"...Careful... Head injury..."

"..Get the girl in the other ambulance... This one might not..."

Would you help me stand

If I saw you in heaven?

Feeling of being lifted. Moved. Enclosed. Sirens again. People around me.

"...Can you hear me, dear?"

Throat is closed. "Huh... Hurts..."

"...Give her the morphine..."

Sharp pain in upper arm.

Darkness.

I'll find my way

Through night and day

Light. Where's it coming from? Eyes open. Surroundings fuzz, white.

He's standing over there. Looking around, confused.

"What the hell is going on?"

He turns. "Don't know. One minute we're close to duking it out, and now we're here. Where ever the hell this place is."

'Cause I know I just can't stay

Here in heaven

"Are you okay? You look... Transparent."

"Yeah, well, you look like shit."

"I feel like shit."

"I don't feel anything."

"You're dead, aren't you?"

"I am? I thought something weird was going on."

"D'you think I'm dead, too?"

"You don't look it. You're all solid."

"My head hurts."

"Mine doesn't."

"They said you had a head injury."

"That explains a lot. Well, if this is the way it's got to be, I guess I'd better apologize before you wake up."

"You?"

"Yeah, me. Being dead makes a person think. And I think I'm sorry. I mean it. I won't tell you not to be sad when you wake up because hell, you're gonna be really traumatized by all this. Just don't feel guilty."

"I do."

"Well don't. It won't help. Don't beat yourself up about it just because I'm a bad driver."

Time can bring you down,

Time can bend your knees.

Crying. "I want to come with you."

"No, you don't."

Faintly. "...Her vitals are going... We're losing her... Get the... Resuscitate..."

"Stop it. You're giving in. Stop that right now. It won't bring me back. You've never let outside forces influence your life before. Don't you dare start now."

Time can break your heart,

Have you begging please,

Begging please.

"You've always influenced me."

"Look, I'm sorr-"

"Shut up. I know you hate it when I get all mushy on you, but..."

"Here it comes…"

"I love you."

"Oh yeah? You're right, I do hate that. But since this is probably our last chance-Now don't start crying!-our last chance to talk, I suppose I can go out on a limb and give you some of that verification you're obsessed with. I love you, too."

Beyond the door

There's peace I'm sure,

"Jerk."

"Would you stop crying? You're going to get me started and then where would we be?"

"You never cry."

Sigh. "Look, I don't think we have much time left, you've got to wake up and everything, so just remember what I said. Don't ever doubt it."

"I won't."

"Promise me."

"I promise."

"Good. And don't hold out for me, either. I'm not coming back. So don't go ruining any chances you may have for happiness all on account of me."

And I know there'll be no more

Tears in heaven.

"Okay."

More voices. Family. Brother. "...Hey... Hey sis, you there?"

"There's my cue."

"No, don't leave."

"I'm not. I'm just exiting stage right..."

White lights. Hospital bed.

He's gone.
