Let me back up and explain for a moment. It's quite a short story; I went into my bedroom just now and closed the door. My kitty, Poe, was with me. Well! He was peering through the crack in the door, and it was not a minute later that he suddenly sprang away with the fear of the devil in him, jumping onto my bed. "How funny", I thought. Really, cats are strange creatures. They seem to be absolutely in their own world. But I'm going off on a tangent...anyway, he sat frozen on the bed, staring at the door. There was nothing whatsoever behind it! Afterwards, Poe's gaze just floated across the room, in every direction. Have you ever heard about animals being able to see things humans simply can't? Do you believe such accounts? I do, I think. I also believe in faeries, (not that I've ever seen one, regretfully), and so...well...it is possible that my cat could be watching one as it flew across the room. Don't you think so?
"Poe?" I ran my hand down his back, pausing to scratch his tail where cats liked it best. Usually, he would be in heaven, but not now. Poe remained entirely unresponsive. Very odd. I sighed and gave up after a while, positioning myself against the wall. Staring hard into thin air. Trying to see something that may or may not even exsist, for all I know! Surely, I should feel silly right now. But no. I just stared, and stared, and finally something seemed to appear before my eyes. It was nothing more than a slight disturbance of the air; however, when I looked across to where Poe was, he had been looking at the exact same spot!
Do you think me mad? I confess that occaisionally, I think that I might be just a wee bit on the...well, strange side. I cannot help but believe in faeries, however. It may very well be due to the many weird things that happen to me...small instances, but important to me, nonetheless. A clear voice saying "hi!" when there is no one in sight. A point of light out the corner of my eye that vanishes when I turn towards it. (Why always out of the corner of my eye? Can these things never appear before me?) A soft, unseen brush against me. All indications that, even when my mom and sister and friends are gone, I am never alone.
"Perhaps we'll talk later, then," I whispered to my unseen friend. And with that, I left the room. After all, all magical moments need to end sometime or another.
But even as I closed the door behind me, Poe continued to stare.
