Absolutely Beautiful By: Julie Kocsis July 22, 2002

Chapter 1

You know that feeling that you get when you feel just absolutely beautiful? It strikes you at the strangest times. At the movies, lying in bed at night, or even when you're sitting in your car at a stoplight. You feel as gorgeous as a model, as sexy as Britney Spears. It's that one vote of confidence that let's you know that things are going to be all right. It allows you to keep the faith. It's a sign from God, that lets you know he's still watching over you. Tonight after I got home from seeing a movie, I went out to my old tree swing, which hadn't been sat on in years. I looked up into the sky. The sky was deep dark blue and tiny specks of light were glittering in the sky. I sat down on the swing and gently swayed back and forth. I could hear the crickets chirping quietly and the hum of traffic off in the distance. Then, it struck me. I felt beautiful. Not just beautiful, absolutely beautiful. My hair gently blew around as I quietly swayed back and forth I then noticed some car lights approaching. I realized it was our 18 year old neighbor buy who was SO good looking I thought I might melt into a pile of goo if he even looked at me. He got out of his car and went around to the passenger's side, opened the car door and out stepped a girl about the same age. She was then with short blonde hair that had been neatly pulled into a ponytail. He leaned toward her and gently kissed her. "Oh, how I wish I had a boyfriend who would kiss me like that," I thought to myself. All I've ever wanted was to fall madly in love with a guy who had fallen madly in love with me as well. Now the feeling of being absolutely beautiful had disappeared and I felt as depressed and as alone as ever.

Chapter 2

After waking up the next morning, I showered and drove to my job, working at a small coffee shop downtown. When I got there I helped open up the shop with the owner and another co-worker. The morning went just the same as it always did. I made half-calf, mocha lattés with chocolate sprinkles, mopped up spilled coffee off the floor and cleaned the bathroom. Definitely not the best job I've ever had, but it paid money. Just as I was about to go on break, I looked out the front window of the shop. And I saw looking right back at me was a guy with curly, dark brown hair that almost looked like a mop and was carrying a bouquet of red roses. As I began taking my apron off, we couldn't help but stare at each other. It was like in a cheesy romance movie almost. Then, as if breaking the ice, he smiled and waved stiffly. So, I did as well, still slightly too hypnotized to move. He then pushed open the door to the coffee shop and walked over to the counter where I was standing. "Hi," was all he said. "Hi," I replied. We just kept looking and looking deep into each other's eyes. Neither of us needed to speak words, our yes were doing all the talking. "Do you want to go sit down and have a drink? I'm going on break right now," I said. "Umm, yes, I love you-I mean, I'd love to," he said kind of embarrassed, "but, uh, I have to go deliver these roses, I'll be back in 10 minutes." Then minutes later he came dashing in the door out of breath. We smiled at each other and sat down at a nearby table. We chatted for about 20 minutes until I finally realized I had to get back to work, wondering where the time had gone. "I'm really sorry, but I have to get back to work," I said. "Well, that's OK. I'd like to continue our conversation another time. Are you busy tonight for dinner?" he asked. "No, I'm not busy at all. Is 7 o'clock OK for you?" I asked. "Ya, it's great. I'll see you then" he said

Chapter 3

That night, after a beautiful evening, he pulled back up into my driveway, got out of the car and came around to my side and opened up my door. We walked over to my back door and I turned around to face him. His crystal blue eyes and shaggy hair only inches away from me. He stroked my cheek a few times and I shyly looked at the ground. Then, I looked up into his eyes and he put two fingers underneath my chin. He pulled me closer and before I knew it, we were kissing. He had the softest, sweetest lips I've ever kissed. I ran my fingers through his hair, then put my hand on the back of his neck. He put his hand around my waist, still gently kissing me. After several minutes of this, we pulled back and looked deep into each other's eyes. "You are so absolutely beautiful," he said in almost a whisper. Some hair started blowing around my face and at that moment I felt it. There at my back door, I felt absolutely beautiful, just like I had that night before sitting on my old tree swing with my hair gently blowing around my face.
