My Only Regret : Chapter One
Hello, O'Connor residence, BriAnna O'Connor speaking.
I giggled as my best friend Bri answered her telephone. Her parents had this request that she answer the phone properly ever since she once answered the phone with a Yo what's up? to her Grandmother.
Hey Cindy! Oh...yeah...you did? Haha, she's here. Yep, nope, nothing. Oh really? Uh-huh...sure...I mean, of course. Yeah...ok 2... yeah. That sounds great. I will...yeah. Alright, talk to you later. See you in a bit. Bye Bye. BriAnna said as she hung up the phone.
, I said.
, she responded.
What did Cindy want and what is going on?
she laughed, Well..since you can never just take simple answers and you need details to understand things cause you over analyze everything I will give you the exact conversation. Cindy called because, as we are both well aware in two days we star our first day of high school, and since she just happens to own a house directly on beach only like 10 minutes away she invited us over. I guess her brother, Tony, is having a get together with some his friends cause this being labor day weekend, sunday before and all, his beach buddies are leaving tomorrow. I guess she thought it'd be a good opportunity for us to hit on some boys.
Well...that certainly seemed like Cindy. She was all about boys. Being the third member to our best friend trio, it made perfect sense for her to call us. Plus, Tony was not to bad ot look at.
Oh...so, anyone we know going to be there? I asked.
Well... I mean. We'll know her and Tony. I think a few of his friends who go to school with him and live around will be there and... ya know...Nicole cause it's her cousin and of course Sarah cause she goes where Nicole does. Bri replied.
At the mention of Nicole's name, I had to cringe. See, Nicole was a year younger than us, as was Sarah. But due to Nicole's cousin and their major popularity, they went to all the good parties. I mean...I'm going to be in ninth and I have never even been to some of the types of parties they have gone to.
Oh No! I yelped coming out of my evil Nicole thoughts.
said Bri as she casually looked at her selection of 4 bathing suits.
Cause sleeping over here had been a last minute thing last night after the mall, I don't have a bathing suit. I only have what I wore last night, that hot nightgown you just love, I teased sacrastically...it was long and green and it was annoying to wear if you weren't use to the style. And... what I'm wearing now. Currently, I was wearing a simple outfit. Just some basic hip hugging blue jeans and a short sleeve t-shirt with princess and a tiara scrolled on it.
Well... you could. Oh never mind. My bathing suits would all be massive on you. Said Bri.
It wasn't that she was fat or obese, just I'm abnormally small. Not so much small but very petite. Being all 5'2 and a size 2, I was kind of different from BriAnna, who stood 5'6 and wore a size 8. I mean... she was right there was no way, I was going to fit into her bathing suits. T-shirts, sweatshirts, even maybe the occasional overalls but definitely not a bathing suit.
Oh well, suppose I'll just have to go in this. I said.
Yeah... ok. Well I have to go find the cute sundress I have that matches this bathing suit. she said running out of her room and shutting the door.
The one good thing about going to the beach was that BriAnna usually took hours to get ready. She had to do her hair perfectly and her makeup and choose an outfit and wow it was massive. Honestly, to get ready for the farewell dance last year, it took her 5 hours. Just ridiculous. I mean, I know she wanted to look nice but you do not have to always look like you've stepped off a runway. She did though, she was really pretty. I guess i was lucky that when she moved here it was the beginning of Middle School and she was shy then being friendless and being full of friends I was outgoing. Now it had kind of reversed. Cindy and BriAnna were my best friends, sure but it was different. Cindy was a cheerleader and very pretty, plus her brother was a total school heartthrob. At the high school our small capeside town was combined with another one and since she had her brother there, she knew everyone and everyone knew her. Making her immensely popular at the high school where we hadn't even gone yet. In Middle School all the boys remembered her brother as the boy who was good at everything and therefore looked at Cindy liked she was too, the girls befriended her to get to her brother usually because he was just so marvelous. Kinda sad actually. I, however, had lived next door to their grandparents for my whole life and therefore had known the Russell's (Cindy Russell) my whole life.
BriAnna, though had just become popular on her own. She was an only child and in the summer between 5th and 6th grade, her father was transferred out here. So when she ended being my partner due to last names, hers is O'Connor and mine is O'Connell. I decided to make friends with her and it's stuck that way ever since. Even though, she moved from Long Island so she has this whole city attitude and dress style (far more sophisticated than normal teenagers), she is nice and became popular.
I, on the other hand, am weird. I'm the oldest but my brother is only a year younger and most people think we are twins. I am weird in the sense that, P-town is my favorite part of the Cape and I have many gay guy friends. I also am very into music and tend to speak my mind and agrue without caring. Not that this has turned people off or anything. For some reason, me calling the most popular guy in our grade a complete lunatic and jerk ( I tend not to swear...how I was brought up and all) and giving like two thousand reasons made everyone love me enough more. I guess, I'm considered that popular by default girl. As in, my friends were so the fact that I'm friends with everyone just doesn't matter. Hard to explain. Basically I am popular but not in the stuck up, I'm better than you and I know it sense...BriAnna can be that way. More in the please be my friend, I'm not really cool, don't let the word out that I'm a true dork.
Anyways, as I was circling my different friends in my head. BriAnna had returned. Glancing up I saw that it was 1:45pm and we really needed to be going.
I said. It's 1:47 and I'm telling you...if we plan on scooping on hot boys before Nicole and Sarah ravish them, tainting their blood, we need to go.
Oh Alright, do you wanna walk cause I have my cell and it'll only take an extra 10 minutes and it's so beautiful. Plus I could really go for some ice cream. She said.
Yeah, sure but let's go. You look wonderful darling! Kiss me, let me be your hero! I want you to want me! I said, as she was telling her mom we were leaving and that'd we;d call when we needed to be back.
The walk there wasn't all that horrible. We stopped at Hodge Lodge Ice Cream and bought some wonderful chocolate brownie sundaes. Well, I bought that. She bought a cone of frozen yogurt cause she is just so concerned with her weight. Honestly, I do not understand it. She was walking atleast 2 miles...I'm pretty sure the calories from the brownies would melt away.
We arrived at Cindy's house fashionably late as BriAnna would call it. 2:13pm to be exact. Not long enough to be considered rude but long enough to be missed. As we walked in I heard a few whistles and cat calls, I turned and saw Tony and his was responsible for this. His crew consisted of 4 boys excluding him, they were Tim, Dan, Blake and Marc.
Hi Boys! BriAnna yelled flirtasouley.
Oh gosh I thought, I come to hung out and she is going to ditch me to caress some boy she barely knows. Oh no, oh no!
BriAnna! Quinn! You guys are here! YAY! Finally, I missed! What took so long?! Tony, shut up, my friends do not want to be called baby by you! GOD, get a life! Cindy screamed! She was so funny, she had run to us, grabbed us in hugs, practically tripped over her own two feet and still had time to reprimand her brother. Amazing!
Hey Cindy! BriAnna and I said at exactly the same time and then broke down laughing over our constant ESP.
You guys are like...so like...nuts! said Cindy, Quinn, you are aware we are at a beach...like there is sand underneath those shoes and it's hot like 90 degrees. Why aren't you ocean ready?
I stammered. You see, I wasn't, I mean I didn't know we were, well coming here and so i didn't have my bathing suit at her house and we didn't have time to get it and I don't fit into any of hers. So yea
They both looked and at me and laughed.
Ya know, Quinn a simple I didn't bring it to Bri's' would have worked. said Cindy. I turned beat red. I have a tendency to blush easily, tsk tsk, one that needs to go away.
Ok...so are we going to stand here and talk or go lie and bask in the glorious sun? said BriAnna.
Ummm...sun, I guess. I'll get a lovely farmer's tan. Whoopi! I replied sarcastically. So I have a sarcastic tendency, no big deal.
Oh, Quinn...you're such a goose. said Cindy
Awwww...yes..goose...back in the 50's...when goose was a popular diss...it I was interrupted by a volleyball hitting my head. OW! OMG that hurt, who the...what? OK, who did that?! I asked rather loudly turning around.
Dan rushed over to me saying, Are you alright?
Yes, I'm peachy...except for the massive pain in the back of my head, you idiot!
Quinn right?
Yes...I'm Quinn, and you are Tony's jerky friend Dan, who enjoys hitting me with volleyballs apparently.
He laughed saying, Awwww...poor baby! I'm sorry. No, I really am sorry though. He continued apologizing although I was basically drowning it out as this point, when I heard...
Oh Dan, you hit Quinn? She's gonna friggin find a soccer ball and kick it at you until your black and blue.
Oh great, I thought, just what I need. Dan's little brother, well brother who is in my grade walking over being a jerk like he was. In case, you remember the most popular boy I called a lunatic and a jerk...well that was him.
Oh Jeff, shut up! Quinn, are you alright? Dan asked me again.
Yes, I'm marvelous. Jeff shut up and go away. Just as I said this I turned to look at Jeff and standing there, next to Jeff, was the hottest, as BriAnna would say most attractive guy I had seen in my entire life!
