Chapter 5

I took one last glance in the mirror. It was about an hour and a half later. I had the movie downstairs, popcorn waiting in the microwave, a million snack foods laying around, and I was almost ready. My hair hung down below my shoulders, full and shiny. My jeans fit me perfectly, and the soft lavender shirt I was wearing complimented them quite nicely. I quickly fastened on the delicate silver necklace I held in my hand, which had tiny pearls spaced along the chain. I smeared some lip-gloss across my mouth and stepped back to admire the ensemble. I ran a hand through my hair, and slipped on my Cat slippers. I heard the doorbell ring and turned to run downstairs. I stopped before opening the door to adjust my shirt and then pulled it toward me. Josh was standing on the front porch wearing jeans and a white shirt. His skin was slightly golden form the sun. His dirty blonde hair fell into his eyes a little, his golden highlights glimmering. His baby blue eyes were sparkling and warm. He had a pizza balanced on his right arm. "Your pizza my lady, " he in a fake British accent, and then leaned forward in a dramatic bow, "nice slippers" he said glancing at my feet. "Thank you," I said, snatching it out of his hand and heading toward the kitchen. He closed the door and followed me. As I headed towards the kitchen I tripped over the gigantic slippers and went stumbling down the hallway, finally landing face down balancing the miraculously unharmed pizza above my head. I placed it down stood up, and began my journey again. "Nice,"he said laughing I set the pizza down on the table and headed into the kitchen for plates, and drinks. I watched him as he turned the movies over in his hand, took a deep breath, and braced myself for what I knew was coming. "UH, Sense and Sensibility, An Affair to Remember, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." "Yeah," I said, pretending not to have a clue as to what he was eluding. "I knew it was a mistake to let you pick the movies." He said I walked over to him and stood in front of him, hands on my hips, "You didn't let me pick the movies it was my turn and if I had to sit through ALL the Jurassic Park movies for the one hundred and eightieth time last weekend then you have to sit through these, ok?" "Okay," he said taking a step back, "You are kinda scaring me, you're usually so mellow?" "Yeah well, "how about we eat the pizza, pizza is good, no arguments there, no, nuh uh, defiantly not," I shoved a piece of pizza into his mouth and sat down on the couch, hitting the play button, and snuggling against the cushions. "Ouch, that was not nice," Josh said landing next to me. "Shh" I said as the roaring lion showed up on screen. "But, it hasn't even started yet," "Shh," the warning was now on the screen "What you want to read the screen now, there's not even any noise." "Josh," I said "Yeah?" he said "Shut up" He took a bite of pizza and smiled at me. I reached back for the soft deep purple afghan that hung over the back of the couch. He grabbed it from me and I reached over to pull it in my direction. Josh grabbed the blanket and wrapped himself up in it. "Oh no you don't, that is mine. I," I was pulling on the blanket as hard as I could, "UGH, you. . . Let GO." He came rolling in my direction, when I placed my feet on the couch, and pulling as hard as I could. The blanket came flying in my direction, and I resettled myself on the couch and smiled at Josh. "Give me that." He said, pulling on it again. "SHHH," I said as the first scene graced the screen, "this is the greatest movie." He groaned and leaned back. I spread the blanket over myself and him, and moved closer to him. "Thanks," he whispered. I smiled at him and turned my attention back to the movie. I got lost in the movie, the romance, passion and drama. It sounds weird but about half way through the movie I woke up, became aware of my surroundings again. Somehow in the last hour Josh and I had switched positions, and I was suddenly very close to him. His arm was wrapped tightly around my shoulder, I had scooted closer to him and my head was resting against his chest. I was surprised that I hadn't noticed the movement. I was suddenly all too aware of the closeness, the way he smelled, the way my heart was racing, and the way it felt to be in his arms, so warm, and at home. And I couldn't ignore the way my whole body was tingling at the contact. I looked up at Josh for a second. He turned his head down to look at me and we locked eyes for a moment. I felt so blessed to have him in my life, to have someone who knew me as well I knew myself. I smiled up at him, and snuggled deeper against his chest. And I turned my attention back to the movie.
