She threw the soda back in his face, and allowed herself to smirk as the orange beverage dripped off the tip of his nose. The sticky substance was plastered on every inch of his upper half, running in mini rivers off the ends of his hair, staining the bright white of his button down shirt, and drenching the front of his apron.
With a satisfied feeling, she turned away and bid her polite and genuine farewell to the elder chefs, who stood frozen in amazement. The eldest chef smiled in response, then gave in to a full blown grin. The girl nodded her head in respect, before continuing on her way.
Moments after she rounded the corner, just past the pizza place, a hand snatched out and grabbed the girl's delicate wrist. With dangerous eyes she turned to face her oppressor, while she heard his roughened whisper.
"You forgot your soda."
Before her retort could escape from her lips, he had taken the liberty of covering them with his own. Brown eyes were widened in surprise as she stared into even browner depths, her thoughts becoming one muddled haze of irrationality. She sensed the unspoken challenge that flared in his eyes, and dimly noticed the way his free hand had found its way to her waist. A moment later his own eyes had closed and sigh escaped from his lips.
She could taste the faint sweetness of oranges.
When his brown depths surfaced once more, he had retreated from the one- sided kiss, and peered cautiously at the girl a few mere inches before him. She seemed to be in state of severe shock, and only blinked back at him once.
Very aware that one hand still held fast to her wrist, and the other was resting on her waist, he dipped forward, resting his forehead against hers. She let out a rush of breath then, and tensed for a brief moment before he reassuringly squeezed her hand. Weaving their fingers together, he brought their joined hands to rest on his shoulder. He never allowed her eyes to drift from his as he attempted to convey his heart through his eyes.
As they continued to stand in the midst of people, confusion coursed through the girl's entire being. As she looked up into eyes as muddled as her own, she only felt the stirrings of sadness and warmth quarrel within her heart. She could only stare hopelessly before her, and wonder what he was thinking as well. The intensity radiating from his gaze was enough to make her shudder.
It was all she really needed.
