Chapter 1: Lonely Girl
"Guys, you see that girl over there?" Chad said pointing to a girl near the back of the room. "Yeah, the one at the pool table in the back?" replied Tony. "Well, there is a legend to why she's always back there" said Chad, who always seemed to always know everything. "Okay then", said Trevor," If you're so smart why is she always back there?" "Alright, legend has it that about ten or twelve years ago this bar wasn't here. This was an empty lot. Her mother died when she was young, and was buried where that pool table is." Chad smiled as he finished his story. His smile seemed to say,"Yeah, I'm the man!" Trevor turned to look at her. She barely ever left that table. "She seems so... lonely" Trevor said while looking at her. He was hoping that she would turn and look at him too. She never really spoke to anyone, but that's mainly because no one ever tried to talk to her. So, Trevor decided that he would be the first one to try to talk to her. He built up as much courage as he could, and started to walk towards her. "Hi. I'm Trevor" he extended his hand. She put her hand in his hand, shook it, and said, "I'm Mia. Nice to meet you, Trevor." "So you like to play pool I take it" Trevor was trying to find a common interest. "Yeah, it's on of the few things that I'm good at." Trevor looked at Mia, and then she turned around. She looked in Trevor's eyes, as Trevor looked into hers. They went up front, and sat down at the bar. The bar tender came up to them. "So, what'll it be, Mia?" She replied in a perky way, "Just the usual, Charlie." "Okay, Kid-o! And what about you?" Trevor said, "A. just a Coke please." Charlie left to get their drinks. "You his daughter or something?" asked Trevor. "On a way, yes", Mia laughed," I don't have any real parents, so when I got to England I went from bar to bar trying to get a job, or a meal. I ended up here. Every night I help Charlie, and I've got a place to live. And since Charlie doesn't have any children of his own, he thinks of me as a daughter. Get it?" Trevor replied as he came back to the real world, "huh? Oh, yeah. I get it!" Then they smiled at each other. Charlie brought them their drinks, and joked with them for a while before having to serve some other customers. Trevor and Mia talked until it was closing time. "Well, I've got to go help clean up now. It was nice talking to you" said Mia. Trevor asked her in a shy voice, "Will you be here tomorrow? Because I'd really like to talk to you again." Mia laughed then replied with, "Sweetie, I'm here everyday rain or shine! I live here remember? Well I have to go now." Then she left. Trevor left that night thinking about Mia. He didn't know it then, but they would change each other for the better. Everyday Trevor went back just to see her. He even went on Sundays, even though no one ever went on Sundays. On one such Sunday Mia was at her pool table, but there was a pretty large crowd around her. When he got back there he realized she was playing the best pool player there. Well, he was until Mia beat him! There DEFINENETLY was a bet since Mia was getting paid, BIG money! "Hey Trevor!" Mia ran over to Trevor. "How. did you do that?" "What? Beat him? Its east, I'm the best pool player here! DUH!" Mia sat down, and started counting her winnings. "So how long have you been playing pool then?" Trevor asked as he sat down with her. "I don't know. Roughly six or seven years. I've barely ever lost after I knew how to play." There was one question Trevor had on his mind. He was afraid to ask because she might be offended by it, but he asked it anyway. "Mia, what happened to your real parents?" There was a long pause. Mia looked at him. He saw the tear building up in her eye. She starred off into space, the turned toward Trevor.
