ME:

Hi everyone. I'm Sofie, and I'm happy that you stopped by. :)

I've been writing fiction since I was 11 years old, but until I started posting the High Maintenance series in 2018, I hadn't posted anything to this site for years. My first two stories were written when I was a teenager, and that was a long time ago. My writing has no doubt improved since then. I've been posting stories to Fanfiction.net for years as well, and now I'm back at Fictionpress. I may turn back to fan fiction one day, if a character catches my attention, but for now I focus on my own, original fiction as I want to someday publish my own novels.

English is not my native language, and I make lots of errors. If you find any really awkward ones, please let me know, and I'll do my best to correct them (don't bother with my first two stories - they're more than ten years old). The same goes if you see the same error over and over again. I'd really, truly like to be made aware of it.

So far, most of my novels and short stories have been in the romance genre. I read lots of different genres, but I prefer to write romance. You will probably never see a story from me without a romance weaved into it, despite the other genres. Except if it's a short story. I may occasionally step out of my comfort zone for those.

I'm autistic, and I live alone with my dog, Sprocket (named after the dog from Fraggle Rock), in a very rural part of Denmark. I don't know what I'd do without Sprocket. He's the one thing that always gets me up in the morning, and he's always happy to see me when I get home to him, no matter my mood. He's the most precious thing ever, and I hate the fact that dogs don't grow old with us.
Being neurodiverse and trying to fit into a neurotypical world has caused severe burnout, and so I'm unable to go to work at the moment. Hopefully, I will be able to again someday, and until then, writing keeps me sane. It recharges me to just think about writing, about my characters, my fictional worlds, and all the new ideas that pop up in my head ALL the time. I have ideas for at least a thousand stories, and they just come so easy to me. It's the research, the drafting, and the editing that I need to work on. ;)

Right now, I'm working on a story in my own language intended for publishing. Once I'm done with the first draft, I'll get back to editing the first book in the Tybalt series, and hopefully have it ready for Fictionpress this summer. Originally, I was hoping for this spring, but that will be a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, if there's anything you'd like to know, feel free to ask. I love private messages and - of course - reviews. ;)

- January 2020

WIP - TYBALT (working title) : An #ownvoice series about the quirky and arrogant police detective Nicholas Tybalt, who doesn't know that he's on the austism spectrum. I created Nicholas Tybalt before I knew I was autistic myself, and I have loved him to bits from the very beginning. This series is a hobby/side project of mine, and so far I have made a rough outline for ten short novels (I may extend it to twelve). Each book will have its own crime/murder mystery, but Nicholas' personal and emotional development, his friendships, and his romantic encounters will have overall storylines all through the series. I have so much fun writing this, and I can't wait to share it with all of you, despite the fact that my skills in crime/whodunnits are lacking. But there's only one way to learn, right? :) - September 2019

Book 1 (no title yet) : First draft is done, and I've started the first round of revisions. When I'm done, I'll leave it for a few months to focus on a novel I've been planning to write in my own language for a long time now. Hopefully, I'll be able to post the first book of the Tybalt series in the spring. I am SO in love with my main character (like, I adore him - he's so funny, and innocent, and arrogant all at the same time), and I hope you will love him, too. - November 2019

THE NOT-SO-GRIM REAPER: My first ever no-romance story, I believe. Written as a side project back in the spring, when I needed a bit of space from the longer project I was working on. I'm not sure about the genre, but don't expect romance nor action. ;) It's really just a heart-warming (I hope) story about how a child's perspective changes something in The Grim Reaper. - October 2019

THE RIGHT KIND OF CHEESY: Romance/suspense. Rated M for language, violence and suggestive themes, but it's still very decent. I finished the first draft of this during National Novel Writing Month in November 2018 and spent months drafting and editing afterwards. It's a standalone office romance with thriller elements/suspense. Main genre is romance. I have never worked this thoroughly with any story before, and no matter the outcome, I've learned SO much from the process. I hope you'll love reading it as much as I loved writing it. - April 2020

THE PERFECT PLACE: A short story from Jonathan's POV. Set after the end of The Right Kind of Cheesy. Contains spoilers. May 2020

HIGH MAINTENANCE:

This series is my first big project in a very long time, and it's the first one I've ever worked with for so long and so intensely. It's also the one I've learnt the most from writing.

HM I - Don't Do Anything Stupid (Theo's story) : is now complete and uploaded. I have learnt so much from writing this, and there are things I would've done very differently, if I were to write it now. However, I won't be changing it anymore, as I'm very much done with it. I've probably read it at least 20 times by now, and though I love this story for teaching me so much, I kinda don't feel like reading it again anytime soon. XD I'll just take everything I've learnt with me to future stories. :)
For chapter 41 - November Rain by Guns N' Roses: /8SbUC-UaAxE

HM II - Flames to Dust (Jack's story) : is complete and uploaded. When I wrote HM I, I never intended to write a sequel until Jack came alive, and I felt like I had to write his story. He's my little baby, and if you hurt him, I will hunt you down and make you pay! ;)
For chapter 3 - Just Like Jesse James by Cher: /LvXBrzlNSwU

HM III (Angelo's story) : is also complete, but I haven't started editing yet. This story was written while I was under a lot of pressure (personal stuff), and it very clearly needs at lot more editing than the prequel did, and right now I have no idea how long it'll take me to actually turn it into something worth reading. But the hardest part - writing the first draft - is over. :) Edit: I don't think the first draft is complete afterall. Thanks to you guys and your reviews of HM I, I got an idea that I think will work much better than what I have now. It won't be a complete rewrite, just a very extensive addition to the existing manuscript. :) Paused - June 2019

HM IV (Mick's story) : is somewhat plotted, and I'm still plotting and outlining almost every day. I have the premise and the main plot, the beginning and the end, and a few scenes outlined. I'm counting on finishing the first draft this autumn, but we'll see. :) Paused - June 2019

None of the characters in the High Maintenance series are based on real people. In my mind, though, they're as real as anyone else. I hope I succeed in passing that feeling somewhat on to the readers.

All High Maintenance songs are my own. I may or may not upload them someday. For now, though, they're just for my own reference when writing - just like the characters' back stories are.

25 YEARS: One-shot written to challenge myself with what I'm not good at - fitting an entire story into very few words. Three friends gave me three writing prompts, and my task was to keep it all within 5000 words.

BLUE, BLUE EYES: Romance one-shot written in April 2018 because someone took my breath away and I had to do something about it. The only thing inspired by that person, though, is the colour of the hair and eyes. ;) Not exactly my best fic, but I had to write it.

YOU GOT VALENTINED: One-shot written for a Valentine's themed fanfic competition in February 2018. It will be the last time ever I write fanfiction about real people, 'cause it just feels so wrong. Whenever I try, I feel like I'm intruding on people's privacy. Wesley isn't the real name of the person who inspired it.

ADAM: Short YA romance novel written when I was a teenager, I think. It's in my native language, and though I've learned a lot about writing since then, I still sort of like it. It makes me smile, whenever I reread it every five years or so. ;)

MISTLETOE AND WINE: Originally a fanfiction about a real person. I wrote it years ago, back when editing was not something I thought necessary. ;) I did write MAW II and MAW III as well, but they were too hard (and too bad - I reread them a few months ago - yikes) to edit into original fiction. I kept the story on Fictionpress because it had some really sweet reviews.
