Cruel Summer Over the years, we've both changed and drifted in our directions. Yet, when it truly matters, we are always here for each other. Tonight is one of those nights. When Devon texted me last week and asked me to fly across the country, I didn't hesitate. I hadn't heard from him in two years, but he needed me. And that's what we do.

2 Tis the Season I pulled the car into our small garage and sat there for a few minutes. While I did feel kind of bad for not telling my parents that I was back, I was glad to spend Christmas alone with James. James had no family to speak of and didn't care what we did. Other than seeing a white Christmas that was. He wasn't one for big family gatherings, preferring his books and documentaries.

Christmas Will Break Your Heart She paused in front of a house decorated with thousands of tiny, glistening lights. Inside, she could hear off-key carols being sung and the delighted squeals of children. The scent of wonderful food filled her lungs. She breathed in deeply, allowing herself to take in the moment. Snow gathered along her ankles, but she didn't pay any attention to it.

1 Alone At Christmas The fire crackled and the wind picked up. Snow blow around, creating even more drifts. She was going to be snowed in for Christmas and was fine with that. There would be no one to bother her and she would be free to celebrate the season however she wanted.

3 Christmas Cookie Wreck She stared down at the recipe with a frown, while the Christmas lights flashed behind her. She glared back at them, which it didn't do any good. She mentally cursed herself for getting herself into this mess. Why had she volunteered to make cookies for this dinner? She couldn't even make toast without setting off the smoke alarms.

5 Last Christmas It's been a year since you left me on Christmas Eve and I wonder if you would even know who I am now. I gave you my heart, but you just gave it away and left me in tears. It was almost you didn't even care what you did to me and how you ruined this special time of the year. I don't know how I will able be able to open my heart again.
